Exploring the Ginza District

The Ginza District, Tokyo's equivalent of NYC's Fifth Avenue.

With shops like Burberry, Swarvoski, Armani, Coach, Mikimoto etc., it was simply a wonderful place to window-shop (duhz).

These large pieces of doughnut like pastry can be cut into smaller pieces, revealing a 'kueh lapis' type of cake. The smallest piece costs about S$13!

Pachinkos are all over Tokyo. It is half pinball, half slot machine. Amazingly, there are alot of people inside trying their luck! They are probably the most colorful shops along any street.
It was interesting to observe several ladies clad in their yukattas, as they gracefully sashay down the street. Naan and I were thinking about getting a yukatta and wearing it someday too.

This was the most impressive shop along Number 8-chome. The watch displays function as elevators! Upon walking into the glass enclosure to get a closer look at the watches, the doors close and automatically transfer you to the 2nd floor, where you can get to try them!

Tokyo's indeed a colorful city with many surprises. Exploring these new places has once again reminded me that this world is much bigger than it looks. All it takes is a willingness to understand how different some things and people can be in a foreign place. And that's where you can see the magic of diversity and the capacity for novel ideas, stories, creations. I like that.

Other than that, classes have officially begun and it has been really interesting so far. Quite a few professors have impressed me with their international mindset, candid description of Japan in terms of its economy, society and politics & passion for education. The class consists of a good mix of people from Europe, Central Asia, SE Asia, Africa, China & Japan predominantly. With most of them coming from developing countries, the classes for Politics & International Organization have been extremely engaging! We get to listen to first-hand stories & tug at the heartstrings of pressing issues.

It's the beginning of Autumn now and I'm waiting for my beautiful reddish yellow autumn leaves. May it be a sweet and peaceful autumn this year.
